As luck would have it, he lands again in the city of Kumud's in-laws and finds her unhappy with a rake of a husband who not only neglects her but has secret affairs with the maid servant of the house. Unfortunately the ship is caught in a storm and he reaches Kumud's house to see his beloved married to somebody else.īroken-hearted Saraswatichandra wanders around. But on realising his mistake he decides to go to Kumud personally to explain the real situation. In an impulsive mood, he writes a letter to the Dewan and Kumud that they may marry off Kumud to a better choice. Saraswatichandra, sensitive and tender, makes up his mind not to get married and bring Kumud in such a hostile house. The step-mother roundly condemns Saraswatichandra and even challenges him to leave the house. Saraswati's father reprimands Saraswatichandra for spending money lavishly and charges him with various frivolous commissions. Saraswatichandra's step-mother, in league with her brother, poisons her husband against Saraswatichandra.
Here he develops real love for her and spends lot of money buying jewellery and ornaments for Kumud. Soon both exchange letters and Saraswatichandra, enchanted by Kumud's letters, visits her house. Kumud duly learns about the aims of her would-be husband and writes to him a letter. Though Saraswatichandra agreed to the betrothal in deference to the wishes of his father, he wrote a letter to the Dewan explaining his mission of Lok-Kalyan. Realising the situation, his father got him betrothed to Kumud, the elder daughter of the Dewan of the neighbouring state. From the early childhood he decided to dedicate his life for "Lok-Kalyan". He lost his mother in childhood and his step-mother was always envious of him. All ends well, as Sarena's mother is able to get justice, the police inspector gets arrested, and Sarena and Jai get married.Towards the end of the last century, Saraswati-chandra was born in a rich family. Horrified by the truth, Sarena teams up with Jai to fix the injustice done to her mother. It turns out that Sarena's mother was raped by a police officer, and Sarena was the product of that disastrous event. She rejects Sarena by stating that she doesn't have a daughter. When Sarena meets her mother, she is glad, but her mother doesn't seem pleased. As Sarena discovers layer upon devastating layer of truth behind her identity, Jai too learns many things about life. With no headway in her search, Sarena seeks Jai's help, inspired by his go-getting ways. At every stage, her companion in her mission is Jai, who follows her through the journey from Mumbai to Ooty to get the legal notice withdrawn. Ignoring her father's protests, Sarena goes in search of her mother.
Sarena, however, notices her father's anxiety and confronts him, only to discover that Jai, despite his crude ways of going about it, had written the truth. An enraged Vivek Devan takes legal action against the errant journalist, and he tries to suppress any further information being leaked. Jai realises that this could be the story he was looking for and goes ahead and publishes it, thus incurring the wrath of Vivek Devan. Jai stumbles upon the secret that pop star Sarena is not the real daughter of industrialist Vivek Devan, who had taken great pains to ensure that no one knew she was adopted. He searches for a sensational story that'll get him there. As the struggling editor of a near-bankrupt tabloid, he dreams of one day having an office in pricey Nariman Point.
Jai's (Jimmy Shergill) world is poles apart. 20-year-old Sarena's (Ameesha Patel) world is picture perfect she has an adorable relationship with her industrialist father Vivek Devan (Gulshan Grover) and is on the verge of major stardom as a pop singer.
